40k Larp

I recently attended a 40k LARP called Death Unto Darkness, so needed a few props. From an X-Shot water pistol I made this flamer (which got stepped on and it now being rebuilt) and a bolt pistol from an off brand foam dart pistol I bought in the pound shop years ago.

Flamer, as completed, then back in time to various phases of construction

The Bolt Pistol, sadly no before pictures.

And because it's necessary, me as a preacher of the Imperial faith

Eldar Corsair HQs

You are probably thinking that there are no Corsair HQs, even if you are running legends. This is sort of true, way back when, FW did have a Void Prince and a Void Dreamer in their publications. For the former, you used an Autarch, and for the later, I guess a Farseer or similar. As I do have some old FW Corsair models, and have printed some bits to field a few more, I really fancied making some suitable HQs, usable with modern rules, that I could run with them.

My Void Prince is from the AOS range, a Scinari Loreseeker with 3d printed jump pack, fusion pistol and head.

The Void Dreamer is also from the AOS range, an Isharann Tidecaster, also with a jump pack, new head and the staff head replaced with a singing spear tip.

The two beasts are from Kromlech and look suitably Gyrinx like, albeit bigger and more ferocious, and are just here for show.

Iron Warriors Land Raiders, Sergeants and Warpsmith

I attended the Northern Warlords team event back in the summer, just after the new CSM dex dropped. The changes in it, meant that it wasn't worth running my old list, as the Decimators were now highly likely to obliterate themselves, and a few other choices just didn't gel so well anymore. The upshot of this was I had a week to replace a part of my army with 2 Land Raiders as well as make a few chaos marines to act as sergeants for my squads. Previously I'd been using mark 4 marines with a studded pad for this role, but it was too hard to easily spot them against regular mk4.s

This is what I produced:

An IW Land Raider that has been in my attic of shame for about a decade, finally built!

An Ebay purchase, fitted with a Kromlech dozer and a few bits from the bits box.

The 3 sergeant models

My Warpsmith, who I realised had never been finished, although he's seen tournament use before.

It's been a while!

Life has been very busy, what can I say? I got married, went on honeymoon to California, then came back and started a new job. I haven't had much time for gaming as we've been doing lots of work on the house to move to something bigger - a small holding hopefully. I've been digging out 7.5 stumps from the 9 trees we had felled last winter, which has been a major under taking. A few stumps were in the 30kg range, so took a lot of work to remove them by hand. The garden does not have vehicular access, so no shortcuts using JCBs or similar.

One of the blighters.

I've also become a trainee beekeeper, and will hopefully be getting our own bees next spring (we have the hive ready to go).

On the hobby, but not gaming, front, I've attended a few LARPs - first since 2019 and spent some time with a model railroad club so that's taken a few weekends too. On top of these, we've acquired more chickens, and spent some time using up vouchers we've had hanging about since the pandemic started.

So what have I done that's of interest here, well, I've worked on some Eldar for a crusade campaign at the local club, I've made some IW Land Raiders in a week due to the codex changes and started printing figures for a Rogue Trader RPG game we'll be running soon. I'll post pics over the next few days!

1/300 - Oddballs

I'm not here right now, but from a few weeks back, I had some space on a build plate so printed some more Microarmour - a few Shorlands and an XP-54 Swoose Goose.

Wedding not Wargaming!

Righto - pausing for a bit as I'm off to get married, so I'll leave you with these horrible abominations! We got them as an early wedding gift - I'm saying nothing more. On a more positive note, I did get to do this with my tractor last week - roll the field we're using for the reception. It's the first time I've been able to drive it for a real task, so that was fantastic!

Warhound - PIP

Another project being packed away for a few weeks, my 3d printed Lucius Warhound, but at least I have the legs and body base coated!

Bright Stallion - PIP

I got some blue paint on it - woohoo!

Colossus - WIP

I had to clear my workbench so we could use it for other purposes for a bit - this was one half built project I had to box up. It's a kitbash from several 3d files, trying to make a Colossus for my Blood Pact - any one remember these from the 5th Ed Guard dex? Simply a Bombard gun on a Chimera chassis, before they fudged it and renamed the Bombard, the "Colossus Bombard".

Lightning - WIP

In between a million other jobs, I managed to print and assemble this - and old school Lightning. Aiming to paint it for one of my 30K armies - not sure which yet.

Possessed Cultists or Murder Servitor Clade

Since the forthcoming Chaos Marine dex has possessed cultists, I thought I'd make something that passes for them, but keeps the Iron Warrior vibe going. I felt that Servitors with melee weapons would be a thematic match. I bought these on Cults, along with some other STLs to make the super possessed cultists (I'm not printing them until I know the base size or the larger models), so I'll show those at as later date. I've also been told that our Heresy group's house rules from King Fluff have a Murder Servitor Clade, which these will also work for - double win! Since taking this photo I have printed another 10.

Together it's a Bright Stallion!

This is now fully assembled,  except for the head, and will head off to be base coated shortly. I didn't attach the head as it needs to be yellow rather than the blue of the rest of the model.

Many Tanks!

Things here are slowing due to the amount of time I've had to spend finding a new job and preparing things for the wedding any honeymoon. I've been assembling some of the projects I've been printing over the last few weeks, so those will be the updates for the next few days. I'm still adding datasheets onto the Big Toys 40k blog, and I do have some news to share on that score, but just waiting for some updated graphics. Anyway, in the pic above, there's the previously shown 4th Legion Lupercal, now in black along with 2 of its siblings, Vulcan and a Vanquisher variants. The other standard Lupercal is for the 16th legion, to join its namesake. The Land Raider Achilles is also for the 4th, and the Warhound, missing its Vulcan Mega Bolter is for Legio Mortis, like the Reaver shown a few weeks back. I may make another later in the yet for my loyalists, when I have more money for filament, and when my Warlord is complete.

Lupercal Tank - PIP

Just before paint got added to the first Lupercal tank (30k style Macharius). Since I printed the bow guns before I found the extra STL, they are bolters, but with shortened Stubber barrels - the remaining 3 tanks will have the correct guns. The rear of the turret didin't print well, so I did a little fix with plastic strip and a custom panel with the Legion iconography on it. One of the remaining tanks will be for the Sons of Horus, but this and two more are for the Iron Warriors.

St Mary's Gratwich

Just wanted to share something I was asked to design, print and paint - a model of St Mary's church in Gratwich - where we'll be getting married. I designed it in 3D Builder based on photos I took while I was last there. Printed on the Mono, and painted with my usual range of paints (mix of Vallejo and GW). Scale wise, it's slightly bigger than 1/300 (1/270 maybe).

Big Toys 40k

As promised, I like to unveil my new project:

https://bigtoys40k.blogspot.com/

We're hoping to run an event from next year to break all those huge armies and giant monsters and warmachines, and all the info, such that it's known at the moment is on the other link. In the meantime, let me leave you with these photos, and the information that this morning I was digging out my half printed Warlord to work out what's still needed.

Slaaneshi Titans - Questor and Subjugator continued

I've been a bit quiet because a few things have happened in the last two weeks, I'll quickly post a personal update, then onto the titans! I was supposed to be starting a new job last week, but offer was pulled hours before I started after some very shady behaviour. This has meant I've been doing technical tests and interviewing with regularity ever since - I need a job as I'm less than 4 weeks from my wedding and I need money! Another thing is that I was attending King Fluff's event last weekend, so needed to paint like mad, not do blog articles. The last thing is that I'm working on a new format of event, starting next year, where we'll be able to meet up and break out the big toys and large armies - I'll post more of that when plans are more concrete. Now onto the titans! First shot is the Questor with the body painted, then a group shot with the Subjugator, armour now fitted. The last shot is the family one, bases all done and shown with my Hell Striders and Reaver Titan.

Slaaneshi Questor WIP

As a stablemate to the Subjugator, here's my Questor - also by Evanogainen.

From the storage box, last Friday morning, with Subjugator bits, at this stage it has no legs!

Legs have been printed and assembled. Feet are not glued yet, they will be painted separately.

Without feet for painting.

Feet and panels painted in a base orange, everything else, first pass of silver.
